Electric Rates
For billing purposes, the members of Jackson Electric Cooperative are grouped into rate classifications based on the character of their electric service requirements. Some rates are restricted to accounts meeting predetermined service specifications and conditions of use. Rate offerings may be reviewed by appointment in our cooperative office.
Rates have four basic components:
- Facility Charge This charge reflects the cost of having your service energized and available for use at your discretion. It is charged to all connected accounts, regardless of how much, if any, electricity is consumed.
- Energy Charge This charge reflects the cost of producing the energy used. Since this charge is billed on a per kilowatt-hour (kWh) basis, the total cost will vary, from month to month, with the amount of electricity consumed during the billing period. There also may be different energy charges associated with varying levels of consumption (declining block rate).
- Demand Charges Some rate groups, mostly large commercial, industrial and agricultural accounts, may be charged a demand charge. This is based on the level of demand, in kW, that the particular account contributes to the cooperative's system peak demand for electricity. These peak demand periods are both monthly and seasonal in nature, and therefore, the demand charge per kW that is applied to a particular account may change during the year.
- Taxes Electric bills are subject to current tax law. Any increase in existing or new taxes on the transmission, distribution, or the allocable sale of electricity by Jackson Electric Cooperative shall be added to the charges.
- Idle Service Fee A property owner may want to retain an idle (no-meter) service for future use. Although no meter is present, Jackson Elecric still has continuing maintenance costs associated with this type of service. To recover some of this cost, an idle service fee is billed and must be paid by the property owner, to retain the service. Property owners subject to this fee will be contacted by mail. In the event an idle service fee is not paid, Jackson Electric will remove the service as time permits, and no other notification will be sent. If, after removal, the property owner requests service, the owner will be charged 100% of the replacement costs, less any benefit realized by Jackson Electric. If property ownership changes, fees for the new service will be calculated in accordance with the line extension policy in place at the time. Please contact Jackson Electric for the current Idle Service Fee.
