Jackson Electric Cooperative - Rates

Rates

The Jackson Electric Cooperative Board of Directors approved a 6.4 percent residential rate increase at the September 2012 board meeting. This rate increase includes the increase in facility charge and energy charge. The facility charge covers the cost of fixed charges that have to be paid even if the electric utility doesn't sell any kilowatt hours. This includes the facilities needed to bring reliable power to your homes and businesses, including, but not limited to, cable, poles, meters, transformers, substations, and mainteance. All electric utilities have a facility charge.

The facility charge will increase from $28 per month to $32 per month. Following the completion of a cost of service study, it was noted the Cooperative's true facility charge should be $46 per month. This is based on five meters per mile of line. To recover this cost, the implementation of a two-step energy rate was approved. The Cooperative is able to recover most of its costs in the first 1,500 kWh of electric usage; therefore, allowing the Cooperative to keep the facility charge at $32 per month.

Summer rates (June-August) are higher because the Cooperative pays a higher wholesale energy rate for summer power than winter power.

These new rates will be effective January 1, 2013, which will be reflected on your February 2013 billing statement.

Power Cost Adjustment

A PCA will be added to your monthly bill either as a credit or charge depending on the wholesale power cost. The PCA allows Jackson Electric Cooperative to keep the monthly energy rates consistent as the wholesale power cost varies monthly.
